One of the many great things about wine is that it’s so portable! Unlike cocktails, or even beer, you don’t have to bring the whole bar with you to enjoy wine outdoors – you don’t even need a corkscrew any more for many types. Just grab your bottle and a couple of glasses, and you’re good to go.
That said, there’s an emerging market just brimming with fun, outdoor wine accessories. I’ve discovered a few that I especially like, so I thought I’d share them with you.
The most important thing you need for that bottle of wine you’re taking to the beach (or campground, or park…) is a glass! I mean, you could drink it straight from the bottle, I suppose, but don’t you think that’s a little gauche?
Instead, bring along these little gems from Liplidz. They’re made from BPA-free plastic, they’re practically indestructible, and they have drink-through lids that keep spills to a minimum and the flies out of your wine – oh, and the double stem makes them more sturdy so they won’t tip over as easily. They’re like adult sippy cups!
If you’re going to have wine glasses, though, you’re gonna need somewhere to put them.
I’ve found all kinds of tables & holders, and some of them are pretty neat! This wine carousel is nice, but you’d have to sit around it to be able to use it, and I like to be more spread out…. especially if I’m sitting around a campfire, or on the beach. I think I’d rather use the individual stakes so my wine could be right beside me where it belongs (when it’s not in my hand, of course)!
You’ll also need something to carry all this cool stuff in. I have 2 picnic baskets – one for food & supplies, and a wine basket that holds 2 bottles and up to 4 glasses. The only problem with my setup is that when I’m picnicking alone that’s a lot to carry, so I’ve been looking for more solo-friendly alternatives and have found a couple of pretty nifty backpacks. There are quite a few different styles, but I like this Hamptons Backpack because it has all your picnic necessities on one side and an insulated compartment for food on the other. It holds everything you’ll need to enjoy that wine outside no matter where you end up!
