It’s been established that I love red wine. Almost all of it. I particularly love big, dark red wine. Purplish-black reds, deep crimson and blood reds…ah, yes, maybe I was a vampire in a past life. No, if I were, I’d probably still be one, right? But I digress – I’m supposed to be talking about wine.
Speaking of wine and vampires, it’s almost Halloween! What you don’t already know about me is that Halloween is my favorite holiday. People seem to unleash their inner weirdo, I mean “artist” and show the world who they really are (or would like to be). You could learn that your boss is a closet Trekkie, or that your new bff always wanted to run off with the circus. What’s not to love about that?
Another reason to love it is, of course, for the candy! I couldn’t wait til my kids were old enough to trick or treat so I could steal, ummmm, sample their treats. Now that they’re grown it’s even more fun now. I get to stay home and hand out candy to the neighborhood kids.
And you know what makes it fun? Wine! I pick up a couple of bottles of dark red wine, pour myself a goblet and wait…in full vampire costume…for the little tricksters to arrive (no, that’s not me).
There are plenty of dark red wine choices out there, but Apothic Dark is my Halloween go-to, and not only because it looks like blood, but at around $14 a bottle I can afford to buy a few at a time. And with flavor notes of dark chocolate, blackberries and coffee, it’s almost as good with chocolate as it is with a nice, bloody steak!
